Infographic: 8 Ways to Fast-Track Your Job Search

Who wouldn't want to fast-track their job hunt? From focusing your search to staying positive, there's a lot you can do to land the right offer in no time.

When you’re entering the workforce out of college, there’s no denying that you’re stepping into a competitive world. Other recent graduates in your field are vying for the same jobs as you, so it can be tough to stand out. That’s why any tips that can fast-track your job search are worth considering.

A look at today’s job market

According to the Harvard Business Review, a minority of students will jump right into a career after college, while most will have a hard time launching. Many factors influence this, but one general principle is that students who have clear direction in college tend to be students who have clear direction after they graduate. If you’re still in school, now is the time to be thinking about the job market. Take at least one internship, and get real-world experiences to add to your résumé. These decisions will help you in your post-graduation life.

What companies are looking for you?

Despite the competitiveness of today’s workforce, there is good news. A large number of employers are looking to hire recent graduates annually—more now than in years past. So, when you’re nearing graduation, research companies in your area of study. If you find employers who are looking for candidates like you, you’ll know where to focus your applications for better results. If you’re interested in learning more about the best ways to prepare for an upcoming job search, take a look at the accompanying checklist. From focusing your search to staying positive, there’s a lot you can do to land the right offer.

  1. Focus on applying for particular job opportunities: Rather than rush blindly sending your résumé for every job posting you see, key in on specific opportunities or companies.

CollegeXpress has helped me in many ways. For one, online searches are more organized and refined by filtering scholarships through by my personal and academic interests. Due to this, it has made searching for colleges and scholarships significantly less stressful. As a student, life can already get stressful pretty quickly. For me, it’s been helpful to utilize CollegeXpress since it keeps all of my searches and likes together, so I don’t have to branch out on multiple websites just to explore scholarship options.

CollegeXpress has helped me find so many scholarships that fit me. They match me to colleges I have specific interest in to make searching for colleges way easier and more efficient. CollegeXpress refers me to schools that have my major of interest and backup schools if I want to change my mind. CollegeXpress also gives out their own scholarships, so you have even more of a chance at gaining multiple scholarships. This website has helped me de-stress from the pressure of not being able to afford college, [of finding] what schools are right for me, and how to find easy access to scholarships that most people never knew existed.

CollegeXpress has helped me learn about an abundance of scholarships available to me and my situation. I was able to do research for colleges in my best interest with your website. I've had multiple colleges email me and offer me multiple scholarships and things of that nature because of this website! Thank you so much for uploading scholarships I didn’t even know existed, even if my life took a huge turn and I wasn’t able to go to college straight out of high school. CollegeXpress helped me a lot in high school to be even more motivated to get into my dream college (which I did, by the way). I'm looking forward to using the materials CollegeXpress has kindly provided me for free to look for scholarships to help pay for college.
